    Recycling household packaging in Belgium

    Fost Plus recycled, in2022, 95% of household packaging put on the market by its members. This great result is mainly due to the increase in the share of plastic recycling. We thus meet (and exceed) the European recycling targets for all materials.

    New Blue Bag at cruising speed

    Thanks to the New Blue Bag, we collected almost 23 kg of PMD per person per year in 2022. So PMD collection really is at cruising speed now. Behind the scenes, five new sorting centres are in operation and the first advanced recycling facilities are now running at full capacity. A huge boost for the local circular economy.

    Every piece of packaging counts

    We’ve been the best home sorters for decades, but out of home too much packaging still gets lost in the residual waste. In addition, litter continues to be a thorn in the side of everyone concerned about public cleanliness and a better living environment. Despite the huge efforts that we all make, we clearly need to do more and better.

    100% recyclable packaging in sight

    Belgian companies are firmly committed to making their packaging more sustainable. They aim to put only recyclable, reusable, compostable or biodegradable packaging on the Belgian market by 2025. So our members are working hard to screen their assortment and systematically replace non-recyclable packaging.

    As the facilitator of the circular economy, we help the public, companies and authorities to deal with packaging and materials more sustainably. So we are more socially relevant than ever. And all the signs are that our role will evolve further in the coming years. Cooperation will be crucial, because everyone has a part to play.
